...HEAT INDICES OF 100 TO 104 DEGREES THIS AFTERNOON...
The combination of heat and humidity will bring apparent
temperatures in excess of 100 degrees in many spots today. Even
though the coast will be cooler this afternoon because of the sea
breeze, the elevated humidity, will result in high heat indices
near the ocean as well.
As a summer reminder, if outside, consider wearing loose and
light clothing, seek shade and stay hydrated. Check on the
elderly, and please do not leave children or pets in a vehicle
unattended, due to the extreme heating inside the vehicle.

...BEACH HAZARDS STATEMENT REMAINS IN EFFECT THROUGH THIS EVENING...
The National Weather Service in Wilmington has issued a Beach
Hazards Statement, which is in effect through this evening.
Gusty southerly winds today will produce a strong longshore current
for the east-facing beaches of Pender, New Hanover, Horry, and
Georgetown County.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
A Beach Hazards Statement is issued when threats such as rip
currents, longshore currents, and other hazards create life-
threatening conditions in the surf zone. Caution should be used when
in or near the water.
